Two years, two friends, four books…
Two years ago, Steven Durbach and Estelle Rozinski began a project as a thank you to friends who offered them accommodation in Melbourne.
“A bottle of wine?” “Nah, they don’t drink!”
The result was an A5 sketch book filled with vivid and quirky conversations in coloured pen between the two artists. Over their four day stay, the artists shuffled the book back and forth between each other, both adding their own voice to the drawings within. These collaborative images incorporated elements of their hosts’ home, their meals and their experiences during their visit.
So pleased were they with the final result, and their process, that they decided to continue this collaboration in their hometown of Sydney. The following two years saw Durbach and Rozinski meet at Sugar Baby in Randwick once a week, together working on a total of five sketchbooks. The images shown are a sample of this collaborative work.
